How it works

Plan it, practice it,then close the gaps.

The same loop works for all three exams: a plan that fits your calendar, practice that explains itself, and progress that points at what to study next.

  1. 01

    Map your weeks

Tell the planner your exam date and weekly hours. It splits the time into phases and weights every area by the blueprint and your weak spots.

  2. 02

    Practice with explanations

Tutor mode explains every answer as you go. Timed mode holds you to exam pace: about 78 seconds an item for Part I and 72 for Part II.

  3. 03

    Drill the stations

For Part III, run 15-minute PEPS stations with a 3-minute prep, a timer and step-by-step checklists for all five skills.

  4. 04

    Close the gaps

With a free account, every answer feeds your accuracy by topic and a queue of missed questions you can retry anytime.

Inside the bank

Built the waythe boards are.

Every feature mirrors something NBEO actually does, from multiple-response scoring to case-based items to the 15-minute PEPS rhythm.

Explanations

Every answer, explained.

Not just the right letter: the reasoning, the formula, the clinical pearl, and why each tempting wrong answer is wrong.

Timed mode

Exam pace, built in.

The clock is set from NBEO's own session lengths, so a timed set feels like the real thing.

Part I
1:18
185 items, 4 hours
Part II
1:12
175 items, 3.5 hours

Progress

See your weak spots.

Signed in, your accuracy builds up by topic and the questions you miss wait in a review queue.

Multiple response

All or nothing, like the real thing.

About 10 to 15% of Part I items ask for more than one answer, with no partial credit. The bank includes them and scores them the same way.

Key dates

The 2026 to 2027exam calendar.

Upcoming administrations, registration deadlines and score release dates from NBEO's calendar. Plan backwards from the one you are aiming for.

Questions

Good toknow.

Anything else? The contact page reaches a real person.

  • Is Fovea affiliated with NBEO?

No. Fovea is an independent study resource. NBEO®, Part I ABS®, Part II PAM®, TMOD® and Part III PEPS® are trademarks of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, which does not endorse this site. Always confirm exam details in NBEO's own candidate guides.

  • Does it cost anything?

No. The question bank, the exam guides, the study planner and the PEPS station drills are all free. An account is optional and only saves your progress.

  • How closely do the questions match the real exams?

They follow NBEO's published formats: single best answer and multiple-response items for Part I, case-based items for Part II, and encounter and skills reasoning for Part III. They are written for practice, not taken from any exam. If something looks wrong, every question has a report link.

  • Where does TMOD fit in?

TMOD is built into Part II. About 120 of the 350 PAM items are TMOD items, with their own score and pass/fail decision. Practice the Therapeutics and TMOD topic, and the treatment questions inside every Part II case.

  • How do I practice for Part III when it is hands-on?

Use the station drill on the Part III guide: a 3-minute prep, a 15-minute timer and checklists for the anterior and posterior skills stations and for patient encounters. Pair up with a classmate who plays the patient, then sharpen your reasoning with the Part III questions.

  • Do I need an account?

No. Practice and planning work without one. A free account needs only your email, with no password: you get a sign-in link each time, and your results, topic accuracy, missed questions and study plan are saved.
